No, we do not have facilities for preparing food. We have spacious seating and tables for you to enjoy the food and drink that you bring with you. We recommend that you bring sandwiches and plenty of liquids. You'll get very hungry and thirsty out at sea.
We make every effort to leave the dock at 6:00 a.m. Please make every effort to be there on time.
We have been known to get seasick ourselves. We recommend that you see your doctor for his advice. However, if you are comfortable with over-the-counter motion sickness medications, we use either Bonine or Marezene. The trick is to take one at bedtime, the night before going out, and another upon rising.
It can be comfortable in San Francisco and cold as the North Wind at sea. It can also be the other way around. We recommend dressing in layers with enough clothing to keep out a stiff, cold breeze, athletic shoes (sneakers are fine). A hat with a string to hold it on is a must. A piece of fishing line tied to your hat will keep it from blowing into the sea.
We sell one-day fishing licenses aboard the Butchie B. They are good for California residents, out-of-state or out-of-country.
The deckhand cleans all the fish. By "cleaning", we mean that the internal organs are removed. However, if you would like for him to filet your fish, just ask. If you do, we encourage that you to tip him for this extra service. The fish is placed in a strong, plastic bag to help you get it home safely.
You do not have to bait your own hook if you aren't up to it. The deckhand will be happy to prepare the bait on a leader for you to use. See, it's not so bad, after all.

Children over eight (8) years are welcome. We aren't staffed to be babysitters. They should be old enough to not require constant attention. With that in mind, catching that first salmon makes a memory of a lifetime.
Yes, it is safe to go out in the ocean on the Butchie B. We are a Coast Guard inspected vessel with all proper safety and navigation gear to ensure a safe voyage out and back.
The Butchie B is a salmon boat. So, salmon is the fish that you are most likely to catch. An occasional striped sea bass or halibut is pulled in. But, salmon is by far the majority of fish caught.
